Brenham High School (Texas) defensive back Trelyn Kelly didn’t need long to reiterate why he’s earned a reputation as a dangerous ball hawk.
Kelly grabbed an interception and broke up seven passes in Friday’s 49-14 rout of Huntsville. Despite a delayed start and an early 7-0 deficit, the Cubs turned things around and led by 21 at halftime.
The 6-foot-4, 194-pound Kelly also recorded a tackle for loss to open his senior season.
Kelly earned offers from Division III Howard Payne University (Texas) and Texas A&M University-Texas A&M earlier this summer. The latter will field its first football team in 2027 and play in the Lone Star Conference.
Additionally, he attended practices at several in-state FBS programs, including Houston and TCU.
“Spending time at D-I colleges is the dream,” Kelly told Legacy Library earlier this summer. “I keep telling myself I will be here one day.”
The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.
Brenham continues its season against East View (0-1) next Friday night.
