Monroe High School (N.C.) wide receiver Chris “Nephi” Robinson opened the 2026 season in familiar fashion, catching a touchdown in Friday’s 28-6 win over Hoke County.
Robinson’s 7-yard score came in the third quarter, breaking a 6-6 tie and giving the Redhawks a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. His other catch went for 23 yards.
Monroe took a balanced offensive approach on Friday night, passing for 153 yards and rushing for another 174. Senior running back Kylan Pope picked up 111 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.
Robinson begins the new year after a busy offseason, and he’s received offers from Grinell, Brevard, and The Citadel since the start of May.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling because when you think about it, it’s a small percentage of kids that get to go to that next level and get to showcase their talent,” Robinson told Legacy Library earlier this summer.
Robinson and the Redhawks continue their season against West Charlotte (0-1) next Friday. Monroe is seeking its second state championship in three years.
