There are football players who identify as Swiss army knives, but few in North Carolina have the potential to cut through a defense deeper than Monroe rising senior Chris “Nephi” Robinson.
Not only is Robinson ready to build off a solid junior season from a receiving standpoint, but he’s prepared to take more snaps in the backfield. Whatever it takes for the Redhawks to win their second state title in three years.
“If I’m not having the best game at receiver, who knows, it might be my night at running back,” Robinson told Legacy Library. “Sometimes it may be my night at both. … If they’re stopping one thing, then I always have something else to go to.”
Robinson had 21 catches for 286 yards and a touchdown last year. He also rushed for 41 yards on three carries, helping Monroe win six of its final seven games.
And based on his recent recruiting updates, college programs certainly believe in the 5-foot-8 Robinson’s playmaking skills. He’s already earned five Division I offers, with the most recent coming from Brevard.
The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling because when you think about it, it’s a small percentage of kids that get to go to that next level and get to showcase their talent,” Robinson said. ”So when a coach tells me that, honestly, I’m just more grateful than anything to just be able to have the opportunity to go showcase [myself]..”
Robinson and the Redhawks begin their season against Hoke County on Aug. 21. Monroe remains among North Carolina’s most impressive high school football programs, rattling off six consecutive winning seasons, three of which were double-digit win campaigns.
Having Robinson as a do-it-all offensive weapon will go a long way, and he’s more than willing to accept the challenge.
“There’s no ego behind it or anything,” Robinson said. “I’m a football player. I think that’s the best thing about me.”
