Only weeks until his junior year kicks off, Dexter Southfield (Mass.) defensive lineman Jensy Ramos’ recruitment is on the verge of taking off.
Nicholls State, an FCS program in Louisiana, gave Ramos his first Division I scholarship offer in June. Less than two months later, you’ll quickly realize that the 6-foot-2, 265-pound Ramos isn’t taking the achievement lightly.
“You work for years hoping someone at that level notices, so when a Division I program reaches out, it feels like proof that the work is paying off,” Ramos told Legacy Library.
“At the same time, it motivates you,” Ramos continued. “You realize people are watching now, and it pushes you to keep raising your game.”
Ramos prides himself on an aggressive mindset, and it’s easy to understand why Nicholls State is so interested in Ramos. He’s spent the offseason focusing on improving his ability to get off the ball and make plays in the backfield.
Additionally, Ramos said that he has put on roughly 20 pounds through a challenging offseason workload.
“A lot of plays are made just by outworking the guy in front of you,” Ramos said. “And then discipline ties it all together: staying in your gap, trusting the scheme, and doing your job every snap.”
Dexter Southfield opens its 2026 season against Buckingham Browne & Nichols on Sept. 10. Discounting the canceled 2020 COVID season, the Wild Boars have rattled off seven straight winning records. They have reached a NEPSAC Bowl three times in that span, winning in 2018 and 2021.
Whoever lands Ramos is getting a confident player who hasn’t let a Division I offer make him overconfident. He says he’s still the man who plays with “effort, discipline, and toughness” at all costs.
“I take pride in doing the dirty work that helps my team win,” Ramos said. “I will do the work you’re not willing to put in and outwork my competition.”
