High School: Princeton (Texas) Track Standout Sydney Smith Continues to Raise Her Profile

Princeton High School (Texas) senior track and field athlete Sydney Smith is ready for prime time.

Smith, who has established herself as one of the Lone Star State’s top track athletes, received her first offer from the University of Kansas earlier this summer. The Jayhawks’ women’s track and field program won the NCAA Outdoor National Championship in 2013, the first national title in program history.

“It feels so good knowing all the work I put in since I was five years old is finally paying off,” Smith told Legacy Library.

The Jayhawks’ interest shouldn’t surprise anyone who has seen Smith compete. She owns personal-best marks of 13.67 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 19 feet, 11.25 inches in the long jump, according to MileSplit.

Earlier this summer, Smith ran 13.73 seconds in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles.

The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.

“What I want the world to know about me is that I’m an athlete and that I’m extremely coachable, and I have a lot of room to grow,” Smith said.
