Last Thursday night presented an unfamiliar scenario for American Heritage-Delray (Fla.) senior linebacker Matthew Lucchese.
American Heritage had been so dominant in its first four games that Lucchese and the rest of the starters typically didn’t play too deep into the second half. That all changed against Key West, as the Conchs refused to let the Stallions’ explosive offense rattle off their trademark routs.
Heritage led by five at halftime and held on for the 26-13 victory, with Lucchese recording a season-high 13 tackles in the Stallions’ fifth straight win.

“We’ve done a really good job of everyone knowing how to do their part and playing together as a whole,” Lucchese told Legacy Library.
The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Lucchese has recorded 22 tackles, one sack, and recovered a fumble for the surging Stallions. American Heritage has outscored opponents 217-44 throughout the first month.
“When I commit to something, I’m full go,“ he said. “I spend hours every week watching film. I always make the most out of everything I can.”
Lucchese received his first Division I offer from Florida A&M this past April, though he’s yet to pledge to a school as of publication. The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during the Early Signing Period can enroll early.
Friday night presents an immensely difficult task for Lucchese and the Stallions, who’ll hit the road for a showdown with The King’s Academy in a battle of undefeated programs with elite defenses; the Lions have held opponents to only 49 points in five games.
