Cajon High School (Calif.) sophomore quarterback Marcus Washington Jr. turned in another strong performance last Friday night.
Washington went 25-of-46 for 373 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions in a 35-14 rout of Independence. The reigning Citrus Belt League Offensive MVP also rushed for 80 yards on 12 carries, one of which went for 29 yards.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Washington has thrown for 618 yards and seven touchdowns through two games. He’s also picked up 201 rushing yards and a touchdown on 31 carries, an impressive 6.48 yards per attempt. With eight total touchdowns, he is well on pace to exceed last year’s 31 all-purpose scores.
Washington has 11 total scholarship offers, including from Texas A&M and Michigan.
Cajon is chasing its first state championship since 2017, when future Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels led the way at quarterback.
The Cowboys (1-1) look to make it two straight wins when they host Murrieta Valley (0-2) on Friday night.
