Fox Lane DT Jake Elman Impresses in Rout of Byram Hills

BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. — Fox Lane defensive tackle Jake Elman continued his strong senior season, recording four tackles — including two on a key fourth-quarter drive — in Saturday’s 21-0 rout of Byram Hills.

Elman made his presence felt with just over five minutes left, stuffing Byram running back James Smith at the line of scrimmage. Two plays later, Elman and linebacker Tommy Atkins stopped Smith before he could convert a third down.

Byram missed a 47-yard field goal, and Fox Lane ran out the clock. The Foxes have allowed only 30 points during their four-game winning streak.

Saturday’s win moved Fox Lane to 6-1 entering Friday’s showdown with 2-4 Rye.

“Really excited about the way our defense is playing,” Elman said. “Something has really clicked the last few weeks.”

Foxes coach John Smith shared similar thoughts, raving about the defense’s success on third down. Fox Lane allowed Byram to convert only three of their nine third-down tries.

Elman currently holds offers from nearly 20 colleges. He said he plans to visit Stony Brook in November.
