As UAB prepares for American play, running back Ja’Vin Simpkins‘ chance to consistently contribute could finally be on the horizon.
Simpkins carried the ball twice for 10 rushing yards and added an eight-yard reception in UAB’s 21-14 loss to Louisiana this past Saturday.
A Coastal Carolina transfer, Simpkins has rushed for 40 yards on 12 carries through three games. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound junior has also turned two catches into 13 yards.

Although the Blazers have dropped two of their first three games, don’t wave the white flag on their bowl hopes just yet. They still have a full eight-game AAC slate, beginning with Friday night’s showdown against Navy (1-1, 0-1 AAC) at home.
Simpkins and UAB will close out its non-conference slate against FCS Samford eight days later.
