Putting yourself on the path to success is sometimes as simple as taking the court with a measure of confidence.
But as Saint Joe (Ind.) guard Elijah King knows firsthand, believing in oneself only goes so far when it comes to grabbing the attention of recruiters.
“What can I be to make myself stand out that a lot of people can’t do?” King said.
That mindset has allowed King, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound rising senior, to become a top prospect in the South Bend area. He’s already drawn significant interest from multiple Division I programs, with Ferris State, Western Michigan, and Central Michigan all offering him a scholarship since the start of April.
“It’s not easy to get looks or get recruited like that,” King admitted.
King played a pivotal role in the 2025 Saint Joe team that won its first IHSAA boys basketball state championship. He scored 16 points in the title game victory over Indianapolis Crispus Attucks.
The Huskies went 21-5 this past season, falling to Northridge High School in the Class 4A Plymouth Regional. King certainly did his part, scoring 20 points with three rebounds and three steals.
King led Saint Joe with 19.1 points as a junior, and his 5.2 rebounds ranked second. He also averaged an impressive 2.4 steals.
Next up for King and the Huskies is winning their second title in three years. Although Saint Joe has yet to announce its full 2026-27 schedule, it’s already confirmed a Dec. 1 matchup with Concord.
We’ll need to wait for a potential Huskies rematch with Northridge, but King is ready for whatever his senior season throws his way.
“The next step for me is just making others better,” King said. “I think I’ve improved on that since being an underclassman. And finishing around the rim. I’m a physical guard, bigger than others.”
