Impressing in training camp is one thing, but Monroe High School (N.C.) receiver Chris “Nephi” Robinson got his first proper chance to leave his mark on Friday night.

Robinson, who recently received an offer from Brevard, grabbed two catches for 30 yards and a touchdown in Friday’s scrimmage against Rock Hill. However, the Redhawks lost 21-6 in their final tuneup before the regular season.

The 5-foot-8 Robinson already finding the end zone comes after a busy offseason where he and the Redhawks’ staff emphasized his versatility. He recently told Legacy Library that he is prepared to also take snaps at running back.

“There’s no ego behind it or anything,” Robinson said. “I’m a football player. I think that’s the best thing about me.”

Robinson enters the new season with five offers, including from The Citadel and Grinnell.

Robinson and the Redhawks begin their season against Hoke County on Aug. 21. Monroe remains among North Carolina’s most impressive high school football programs, rattling off six consecutive winning seasons, three of which were double-digit win campaigns.
