Recognizing Recruiting: Cornell Men’s Basketball Lands Highly-Touted High School Guard Caden Ivery

Cornell’s men’s basketball program pulled off a massive recruiting coup on Sunday morning, with highly-touted Phelps School (Penn.) guard Caden Ivery pledging to the Big Red.

As of Aug. 3, 247 Sports considers Ivery a three-star prospect and Pennsylvania’s No. 7 prospect. When factoring in the composite rankings, Ivery jumps up to a four-star prospect and Pennsylvania’s No. 3 prospect regardless of position. 

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound Ivery is the first official member of Cornell’s 2027 signing class. The Big Red initially offered him in late June.

Ivery had also received Division I offers from Brown, Canisius, Boston, Air Force, and Western Michigan.

Cornell has rattled off five consecutive winning seasons, including a 15-13 finish last year. The Big Red seek their first NCAA tournament appearance since reaching the Elite Eight in 2010.

Richmond lands edge rusher Hugh Manning

Elsewhere at the mid-major level, Richmond football added to its 2027 recruiting class on Sunday after Hammond (S.C.) edge rusher Hugh Manning committed to the Spiders. 

Although the 6-foot-4, 220-pound Manning is unranked on 247 Sports, he held offers from multiple Division I schools, including Army, Bryant, and The Citadel.

“Beyond grateful to be in this position going into [my] senior year!!!” Manning wrote on X/Twitter.

Manning is the seventh player to publicly commit to Richmond’s next recruiting class and the first edge rusher. 

Counting the shortened 2020 season, Richmond is 44-22 over the last six years. That includes three consecutive playoff appearances from 2022-24.

• Congratulations to Baldwin-Woodville (Wis.) two-way standout Aidan Foster, who received an offer from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls on Monday. We wrote on Foster last week and will have more on his story to come.
• Emporia State, a Division II program in Kansas, landed a verbal commit from Texas high school quarterback Jacob Torres. The 6-foot, 185-pound rising senior plays at North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, the alma mater of former Alabama All-American offensive lineman Cyril Richardson.
