Bishop Moore Catholic High School (Fla.) kicker Nico Salas began the 2026 season in style, drilling every kick in Friday’s 38-21 victory over Lake Brantley.
Salas, a senior who recently received an Air Force offer, went a perfect 5-of-5 on extra points and had seven kickoffs result in touchbacks. He also had a 36-yard field goal for the Hornets.
The flawless start aligns with Salas’ desire to be a trustworthy special teams weapon for longtime coach Matt Hedrick.
“If coach needs a touchback [or] if coach needs a field goal, I want to be that guy that’s reliable, and that he can trust,” Salas recently told Legacy Library.
So far, so good for both Salas and the Hornets. Friday night marked the third straight year they opened the season with a victory.
Salas and Bishop Moore Catholic return to the field next Friday against Hawthorne. The Hornets are chasing their third state football championship and first since 2015.
