Michael Smith II and Iowa Central Community College had no intention of letting a rough first impression prove lasting.
Following a close Week 1 loss to Butler, Smith and the Tritons bounced back with a 63-7 rout of Ellsworth. Those in attendance saw both an explosive ICC offense and one of the nation’s top junior college prospects — and that’s not us being overly kind, either.
As of Sept. 10, 247Sports has Smith ranked as the No. 1 junior college offensive tackle in the country and the No. 5 junior college player overall. He has received 15 Division I offers, the most recent coming from Texas-El Paso, and spent time at UAB earlier this summer.

Smith also told Legacy Library that he plans to visit the University of Ohio in mid-November.
“I take time and focus on what’s important,” Smith told Legacy Library. “School’s first, and then you got football after. I’m really just focusing on install in the classroom and in the field, because that’s what’s most important.”
The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.
Smith and ICC return to the field on Saturday against Highland C.C. in Kansas.
“No matter what the challenge is, I’m gonna get it,” Smith said. “No matter what.”
