Take a trip to Kentucky, and you’ll find plenty of things. Bourbon, for one. You could also head down to the track and watch the horses.
So when Cajon High School (Calif.) quarterback Marcus Washington Jr. crossed the country and headed to Lexington earlier this month, he realized just what makes the University of Kentucky so special.
“They take pride in their sports,” Washington told Legacy Library.
Washington, a sophomore standout and one of California’s top young quarterbacks, pledged to Kentucky this past week. He is the first member of the Wildcats’ 2029 recruiting class.

A second-year starter for the Cowboys, Washington has already scored 13 touchdowns (eight passing, five rushing) through five games. He’s also recorded two 100-yard rushing performances.
Needless to say, Big Blue Nation is thrilled by the prospect of seeing Washington in 2029.
“The past couple of days have been pretty busy,” Washington admitted. “I’ve been getting a lot of phone calls, and I’ve been seeing my name across all platforms. I’m already getting a lot of support from the Wildcat fans.”
Kentucky moved to 3-1 after beating South Alabama on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats, who upset No. 9 Texas A&M last week, resume SEC play against South Carolina (2-2, 0-2 SEC) next Saturday.
Washington and the Cowboys (2-3) face Citrus Valley (3-1) next Friday night.
