Upon reflection, chances are that Chanhassen High School (Minn.) shooting guard Lucy Hilgert is an extreme minority among her classmates.
Not only is Hilgert already thinking about college ahead of her sophomore high school season, but the feeling is mutual. Within the last month, she’s received Division I offers from North Dakota State, Omaha, Montana State, and Utah State.
“I put in a lot of work in the gym, and it’s really shown,” Hilgert told Legacy Library. “My team and the coaches have really helped, and just to be able to [possibly] play at that level is great.”
It’s easy to understand why schools are already interested in Hilgert. She averaged 15.1 points, five rebounds, two assists, and 2.1 steals in 29 games as a freshman.
Hilgert also stood out at various summer camps and tournaments, including the Minnesota Gopher Elite Camp in late June.
And while her stats are impressive, they don’t tell the full story of Hilgert standing her ground against upperclassmen on a nightly basis. She played a massive role for a Storm team that finished 18-10 and recorded its third consecutive winning season.
Chanhassen has not rattled off four straight winning records in over a decade, though Hilgert has her eyes set on something far more grand: the first state title in program history.
“I’m gonna give a lot of aggressiveness on both my offense and defensive side,” Hilgert said.
