If Darrell Sweeting and the UAB Blazers are looking for a bright spot amid their 1-2 start, they need look no further than their defense’s gradual improvements.
UAB held Louisiana to 21 points, none in the second half, and 335 yards in last Saturday’s seven-point loss to the Ragin’ Cajuns. Sweeting recorded two tackles in the Blazers’ penultimate non-conference game.
Sweeting, who transferred to UAB from former C-USA rival Marshall this past offseason, has 12 tackles and 0.5 TFLs through the first three weeks.

To UAB’s credit, things could have quickly spiraled following a 42-23 loss to Illinois in Week 1. But the Blazers rebounded with a 26-20 win over ULM on Sept. 12, and they forced two fumbles against the favored Ragin’ Cajuns.
