High School Football: Brenham DB Trelyn Kelly Making the Most of Texas Recruiting Circuit

Over the course of a month, Brenham (Texas) defensive back Trelyn Kelly got the full Texas Division I experience.

Kelly, a rising senior, visited Houston, Rice, Baylor, and TCU practices throughout the spring.

“Spending time at D-I colleges is the dream,” Kelly said. “I keep telling myself I will be here one day.”

Kelly, a two-sport athlete who also plays basketball, certainly has the size and skills to find himself at a Division I school.

At 6-foot-4 and 194 pounds, Kelly is a proven ball hawk. He picked off three passes and broke up another seven in his junior season.

“I’m taller than most DBs, so it’s harder to get low and play the position I play,” Kelly said.

Kelly could have an opportunity to showcase that size while playing a part in Texas college football history.

Kelly recently earned a scholarship offer from Texas A&M University-Texarkana, a Division II school that will field its first football team in 2027.

The Eagles will play in the Lone Star Conference, and potentially having the dynamic Kelly in their secondary would go a long way in starting their program in style.

Howard Payne University, a Division III school in Brentwood, Texas, offered Kelly on June 17.

Kelly stayed busy throughout June, attending camps at Houston Christian, Stephen F. Austin, and Houston from June 3-8.

He also participated in camps at UTSA and Baylor.

Kelly and Brenham begin the 2026 season with an Aug. 20 scrimmage against A&M Consolidated. The Cubs officially kick off the regular season eight days later with a home game against Huntsville.
