Considering how much he’s become accustomed to change, the opportunity to move nearly 600 miles for college doesn’t scare South Walton High School (Fla.) offensive line standout Alex Sansom.
Sansom recently committed to Florida Atlantic, which is over a seven-hour drive away from Santa Rosa Beach. Both schools might be in the Sunshine State, but he’s far closer to New Orleans than he is to Miami.
“I’m just really good at adapting,” Sansom told Legacy Library, “and I love new places [and] love new people.”

Settling into different environments is nothing new for Sansom, who initially attended IMG Academy. He then moved to Memphis and spent three years at Christian Brothers High School before returning to Florida.
Sansom attended the Owls’ Sept. 12 victory over Navy and quickly realized that Boca Raton was his dream home.
“It was a surreal moment,” Sansom said. “I mean, their stadium is ten times bigger than I thought it was, and the atmosphere was great.”
The possibility of studying in South Florida also appealed to Sansom, who eventually wants to embark on a commercial real estate career. He said he expects to play center at FAU; Braden Cunningham is a redshirt sophomore, though right guard Vincent Fiacable is a fifth-year senior.
Sansom praised FAU offensive line coach Stephen Hamby, specifically how he’s able to motivate players during both hot streaks and rough stretches.
The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.
Sansom and South Walton are off to a 4-1 start entering Friday’s showdown with 2-2 Pine Forest. As for the Owls, they sit at 2-1 ahead of Saturday’s non-conference game against Louisiana-Monroe.
