For the second time in less than a week, a Pennsylvania guard made history as the highest-ranked verbal commitment in a school’s history.
Only days after Phelps School standout Caden Ivery pledged to Cornell, The Haverford School’s Silas Graham announced he was committing to Saint Joseph’s. As of Aug. 7, 247 Sports considers Graham to be the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania regardless of position and the nation’s No. 19 guard.
A four-star shooting guard, Graham owns a 95.35 rating on 247 Sports. He is the first verbal commit of Saint Joseph’s 2027 recruiting class.
Graham’s father, Nat, is a longtime college basketball assistant who worked alongside Saint Joseph’s coach Steve Donahue for over two decades. Nat left the Hawks for Drexel in June.
The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.
Saint Joseph’s went 24-12 in Donahue’s first season, and the Hawks have won at least 21 games each of the last three years. They enter the 2026-27 campaign seeking their first NCAA tournament berth since reaching the Round of 32 in 2016.
UMass snags running back Nate Ellis
A rebuilding UMass program landed a key addition this week, with Williston Northampton (Mass.) running back Nate Ellis publicly committing to the Minutemen.
The 5-foot-9, 190-pound Ellis is the second running back in UMass’ 2027 recruiting class. Downingtown West (Pa.) standout Amari Cannon pledged to the Minutemen in June.
UMass now has seven verbal commits, though Manchester Memorial (N.H.) tight end Joel Gomez is the only ranked prospect. As of August 2026, 247 Sports considers Gomez a three-star prospect and the state of New Hampshire’s best player regardless of position.
Williston Northampton opens its 2026 season against the Taft School on Sept. 12. The Wildcats are chasing their sixth consecutive winning record.
August is the month of offensive line commits
Numerous offensive linemen have announced their verbal commitments in recent days, including:
- Byron Nelson (Texas) interior lineman Nick Fungavaka committed to Montana;
- South Oak Cliff (Texas) interior lineman Zion Ragster pledged to Lamar;
- Akron landed a commitment from Wyoming Seminary (Pa.) tackle Jayden Remplet;
- Buford (Ga.) Justin Thomas accepted Wofford’s scholarship offer.
