Before going any further, Lawrence Campbell Jr. wants you to know his name.
We don’t mean that in a metaphorical way, either. His play at Mainland (Fla.) High School put him on the map and earned him a spot at Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.
But when you refer to the redshirt sophomore cornerback, make sure to refer to him as Lawrence Campbell Jr.
“It’s represented for my father,” Campbell Jr. said.
As he enters his redshirt sophomore season, it’s clear that family matters immensely to Campbell Jr. He makes it a point to call his teammates his “brothers” and note how they’ve truly become a key component of his journey, especially with him being the only player from Florida.
“We go to war for each other,” Campbell Jr. said.
Campbell Jr. has done plenty to make his blood and found families proud. He won a state championship at Mainland and continued to claw his way up the Warriors’ depth chart.
“I feel I can cover any wide receiver because of how I play cover and how I press man-on-man,” Campbell Jr. said.
East Stroudsburg credited Campbell with two tackles last year, and he’s positioned himself to drastically improve those numbers after a strong spring camp.
The Warriors eagerly await Campbell’s breakthrough. ESU went 27-8 over the last three years and has completely turned its program around under Jimmy Terwilliger.
“I understand a lot of players out of high school never get this chance,” Campbell Jr. said. “So I’m grateful to still play the game of football.”
