Texas high school football teams still haven’t realized that throwing Brenham defensive back Trelyn Kelly’s way never ends well.
Kelly continued a sensational season by snagging another interception, this time for 27 yards, in Friday’s 40-3 rout of Bastrop.
If any of this sounds familiar, it’s because Kelly has four interceptions through five weeks. Brenham has outscored opponents 251-53 in that span, and the Cubs haven’t allowed more than 15 points all season.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Kelly has continued using his size to torment opponents. With just over two months left until the Early Signing Period kicks off, we expect his recruitment to start surging.
Kelly earned scholarship offers from Howard Payne and Texas A&M University-Texarkana this past summer. Landing the dominant defender would be a coup for Texas A&M University-Texarkana, a Division II school that will field its first football team in 2027.
Players who sign during the Early Signing Period can enroll early, depending on the university’s admission policies.
Kelly and Brenham are off next week before facing University (1-4) on Oct. 9.
