But for the first time, Bauer collected an offer from a team outside of the Dakotas. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Bauer announced a scholarship from the University of Northern Colorado on Monday evening.

You can’t blame the Bears for their timing. Bauer is fresh off a four-catch, 151-yard, two-touchdown performance in last Friday’s 56-20 rout of Fossil Ridge.

North Dakota State and South Dakota State had previously offered Bauer earlier this year.

Fossil Ridge became Bauer’s latest victim in what’s already been an impressive senior campaign. He’s caught 17 passes for 355 yards and six touchdowns, all of which are at least double what he did last year.

A versatile weapon, Bauer has also picked up another 250 yards via kick returns, rushing yards, and interceptions; much of that total came on a 99-yard kickoff return.

Northern Colorado won Division II championships in 1996 and 1997 before moving to the FCS level in 2004. Former Chargers standout receiver Vincent Jackson, a three-time Pro Bowler, is arguably their most successful NFL alumnus.

Bauer remains uncommitted as of Sept. 29, and he still has plenty of time to make his decision. The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Athletes who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.

Fairview (3-2) looks to make it two straight wins when the Knights play at Riverdale Ridge (2-3) on Friday night.
