With respect to a certain California band, Hagerty High School (Fla.) senior linebacker Reli Gutierrez might not want September to end just yet.
Gutierrez hit the road last weekend, leaving Florida for his official visit at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in New York. The Mariners are a Division III program located in Kings Point, roughly 22 miles east of Manhattan.
Luckily for Gutierrez, USMMA dominated Nichols in a 63-14 romp. Last year’s 8-2 record marked the Mariners’ most wins since 2021.

There’s a history of linebacker greatness at USMMA. Arguably, USMMA’s most notable athletics alumnus is former Broncos linebacker Joe Rizzo, who played in Denver from 1974-80. He was a member of the legendary “Orange Crush” defense and suited up against Dallas in Super Bowl XII.
Gutierrez has also received college offers from Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Cornell College (Iowa), and Maine Maritime.
The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.
Hagerty is coming off a 28-7 loss to Oviedo last Friday night. Gutierrez and his teammates look to make it three wins in four games against Winter Park on Friday.
