Arkansas-Pine Bluff has quickly assembled one of the FCS level’s most imposing rushing attacks, partly because they recognize the value of senior running back Jaylen Jennings.
The Ohio native wrapped up an impressive first month last Saturday afternoon, rushing for 63 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries in a thrilling 41-35 victory over Central State. He also had his first catch of the season, though it resulted in a two-yard loss.
Jennings has already run for 243 yards and three touchdowns on five yards per carry. He’s well on pace to surpass 700 rushing yards for the second straight season.

Scoring hasn’t been a problem for the Golden Lions, who have scored at least 35 points in all three of their FCS games. However, they’ve allowed 142 points over the last three weeks, with Missouri and Alcorn State putting up 54 and 53, respectively.
Incredibly, Jennings’ 243 rushing yards put him only one yard behind Za’Marion Webber for the team lead.
Here’s where things get interesting. UAPB’s schedule features two bye weeks sandwiched between next Saturday’s clash with Southern (2-3) in the Golden Lions’ SWAC opener.
From there, UAPB will only play conference games until the regular season ends. The Golden Lions are chasing their first winning record since going 4-1 during the shortened COVID season.
