Assumption High School (La.) senior defensive back Braylen Simon certainly had an exciting final September weekend.

Simon announced last Friday morning that he’d earned a scholarship offer from St. Norbert College, a Division III program in Wisconsin. Just a few hours later, the versatile defensive back was spearheading a much-needed 14-6 victory over Carroll.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Simon had six tackles, forced a fumble, and broke up a pass in ending a two-game losing streak.

Last Friday’s win marked their fewest points allowed since a 39-7 rout of South Terrebonne on Nov. 7, 2024. But above all else, Simon and the 2-2 Mustangs have already matched last year’s win total.

Simon had previously received football scholarship offers from Minnesota North Vermillion, Ecclesia College (Ark.) and the Salt Lake Yetis, a prep team in Utah.

William Penn University offered Simon, who suits up at both point and shooting guard, a basketball scholarship in mid-August.

The 2026 Early Signing Period is expected to begin Wednesday, Dec. 2, and run through Friday, Dec. 4. Players who sign their letter of intent during that period can then enroll early.

Simon and the Mustangs look to pull off the home upset of Ascension Catholic (4-0) on Friday night.
