Much like his classmates, Fairview High School (Colo.) receiver Tommy Bauer is doing preliminary research on potential colleges he’d like to attend next year.
The difference? Bauer, who already holds Division I offers from North Dakota and South Dakota, is looking into far more than enrollment or what the on-campus dining scenes look like.
“I make sure they have room on the roster still,” Bauer explained. “But I stay in contact with the coaches, and based off their responses, it tells me if it’s worth it to go up to that camp and how much interest they have.”
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Bauer said the North Dakota and South Dakota offers both came following summer football camps.
“I’m pretty picky about which camps I go to,” Bauer told Legacy Library. “I make sure that it’s not going to be a waste of my time because camps aren’t an easy thing to go to.”
Bauer and the Knights went 10-2 and reached the Class 5A semifinals. Fairview averaged 52 points per game, including an incredible 78-28 rout of Arapahoe in the quarterfinals.

For the Knights to win their first state championship since 1987, they’ll be counting on Bauer to apply the mindset that’s firmly putting him on colleges’ radars.
“Without showing it, you gotta be cocky,” Bauer said. “You gotta think that you’re the best player out there. And when you mess up a rep, you gotta know what you did wrong … but don’t let it bring you down. Instead, let it elevate you.”
Fairview opens its 2026 season against Westminster on Friday, Aug. 28.
